They are made with 3 simple, yet potent ingredients, most of which are probably already found in your kitchen cabinet.

Raw Honey

Raw honey contains potent antibacterial properties which are known to help soothe a sore throat.  It is known to help bring relief from an annoying cough and fight respiratory inflammation.

Coconut Oil 

Coconut oil contains lauric acid, a substance which is known to kill detrimental bacteria, viruses, and fungi when ingested.

Cinnamon                                            

In addition to being spicy and tasty, cinnamon has been scientifically proven to help reduce inflammation in the body, provide antioxidant properties, and fight bacteria.

DIY Cough Drops Recipe Instructions

Add about 100 mL (about 7 tablespoons) of coconut oil in a bowl and mix thoroughly with a whisk until light and foamy. Once the consistency is right, start gradually stirring in about 100 grams (7 tablespoons) of the raw honey, whisking constantly until the mixture has turned into a thick paste. Season with cinnamon to your personal preference. It is recommended to mix once more to fully combine all of the ingredients.  When done, you are supposed to get an evenly mixed, thick, warm colored mixture.

Fill the bottoms of ice cube trays or line a cooking sheet with wax paper and divide about quarter sized doses of the paste into rows. Freeze for half an hour to set the mixture into solid drops.  Remove from the tray and keep in the fridge until use.

Use:

To prevent sickness and keep symptoms of cold and flu at bay, take a drop on a daily basis regardless of how you feel.  If you have already started to feel under the weather, take additional drops for relief from mild coughs and sore throats.
