Did you know that our bodies have two different ages: chronological and biological?  The first one refers to how long we have been alive, and the latter refers to how old our bodies actually seem.

There are a couple of different things that can help determine one`s biological age. One of those is determining the length of person`s telomeres, the protective ends of chromosomes.   Telomeres keep the chromosome ends from fusing with a chromosome nearby, which affects cells` aging process and death.

As explained by, Dr. Terry Grossman, founder and medical director of the Grossman Wellness Center in Denver, “Every time that a cell divides, a telomere bead falls off from the end of the chromosome. It appears there is a direct correlation between telomere length and biological age. The longer you live, in other words, the greater your chronological age, the shorter the total length of your telomeres.”

However, this isn’t the only way to determine your body`s biological age.  There is a much simpler way, which can be done at home.

Test Your Biological Age

This test is a very simple flexibility test to determine where your body lies relative to your chronological age.  Begin with a light stretching in order to prepare the body.  A couple of slow jumping jacks to get the blood flowing to the muscles is a good idea.

Then, stand with the feet together and bending at the hips, try to see how far you can reach with the hands.  If your find keeping the legs straight uncomfortable, feel free to bend slowly.  Memorize the results and compare them to the next ones.

If you could…

Touch the floor with your hands as you keep the legs straight, your muscles are relaxed and your body is as flexible as an average 20-25-year-old person.

Touch the floor with your fingertips, with straight legs or with a slight bend in your knees.  In case you feel little or no discomfort at all, it means that your muscles are relaxed as an average 35-38 year-old-person.

Touch your toes or feet with your knees bent or straight legs.  If you can reach only this far, your muscles are tense, and you start feeling discomfort, it means that your muscles are flexible as an average 35-50-year-old person.

If you cannot touch your feet and any attempt to bend more makes you bend more, it means that your muscle flexibility is similar to a person who is over 50 years old.

If you are not satisfied with your results, don’t worry! Bend over thirty times daily, and you will achieve amazing results in a month`s time.  By doing this you will make your tendons and ligaments stronger, which will significantly improve your flexibility.
