10 Ways to Increase the Dopamine In Your Brain

increase dopamine brain

Dopamine is a potent neurotransmitter in the brain which is responsible for focus and motivation.  Who doesn’t want to be more focused and motivated?

The good news is that it`s possible to increase dopamine in the brain and boost your productivity.  What`s more, it can be done in an all-natural way!

1. Don’t get addicted

Many people get addicted to drugs, smoking, sex, alcohol or pornography as gives them certain kind of instant gratification. However, these behaviors have the opposite effect on dopamine levels in the long-run.  When we get addicted to something, the “reward circuitry” of the brain enters a state of great or excessive activity and we crave the “quick hit”.

2. Checklist small tasks

When we are organized and finish tasks, dopamine increase.  Instead of worrying about you need to do, write these tasks down and check them off one at a time.  Physically checking something off of our-to-do list has been shown to boost brain`s dopamine levels.

3. Create something

When we are in a creative mode, we become focused and enter a state known as flow.  Dopamine is the chemical that helps us to achieve this state! Take up an activity or hobby in which you can create something, whether it is drawing, auto repair, crafts, or art.

4. Exercise

Exercise helps relieve stress, promote physical health, and it even makes us more productive by boosting dopamine levels. Specifically, it increases multiple neurotransmitters – serotonin and endorphins, besides dopamine.

5. Get a Streak Going

A streak is a visual reminded of how many days in a row you have achieved something.  Getting a streak is a great way to boost dopamine levels and it works similarly to creating a checklist.

6. Increase Tyrosine

Tyrosine is the building block of dopamine, so getting enough of this protein is of utmost importance. Some of the best sources of tyrosine include almonds, avocados, eggs, coffee, green tea, chicken, beef, chocolate, bananas, watermelon, milk and yogurt.

7. Take Supplements

There are many natural supplements out there which have been shown to boost dopamine levels.  The best ones include acetyl-l-tyrosine (another building block of dopamine),  Ginkgo Biloba ( a supplement that increases dopamine levels and keeps it circulating in the brain),  L-theanine ( green tea is rich in this compound), and curcumin ( the active ingredient in turmeric).

8. Toxic Cleansing

Our bodies accumulate toxins and bacteria over time, and this is inevitable.  Endotoxins , in particular, are the ones that weaken the immune system and inhibit the production of dopamine. A good way to cleanse the gut of these toxins is to eat fermented food, avoid sugary foods, and get enough sleep.

9. Meditate

Meditation provides a wide plethora of health benefits, and boosting dopamine levels is one of them! Scientists are now proving what Buddhists have known for a long time: mindfulness and meditation are critical for a healthy mind.

10. Listen To Music

Listening to music boosts dopamine levels and it has the same effect as watching your favorite movie or eating your favorite food. So, whenever you are feeling down, put your favorite song on!
