Canada recently legalized the use of recreational cannabis, allowing people to use CBD products to improve problems like poor sleep, anxiety, and sexual performance. CBD oil is one of the most commonly used forms of CBD, as a way to relieve a variety of ailments.
Muscle pain is one of these ailments. It has been scientifically proven to work as a pain reliever and may help reduce the symptoms of arthritis. One of the major ways people do this is by using CBD oil in a massage.
I suffer from sciatica, a pain which affects the large nerve which goes from the lower back down the back of the legs, along with constant aches. I have been looking for natural relief for some time, so I decided to try CBD massage.
I visited a spa to get a massage using CBD oil, which was said to increase relaxation, reduce inflammation, and relieve the muscle pain. As I was waiting for a taxi after my appointment, I noticed that my back didn’t ache as it usually does. My always-tight calf muscles felt tingly and loose. And the biggest difference came a couple of hours later:
“Amazingly, that night, I happily realized that the usual pain I feel when trying to get comfy in bed was missing and I fell into a deep sleep by 9 p.m.”
And, I am not the only one who enjoyed the benefits of CBD oil. Claudia Rivas, the general manager at The Spa Ottawa, told me that purchases of CBD products have risen since it has been legalized.
“It’s a natural and organic painkiller,” Rivas said, adding that many of their clients have been using CBD massages to complement physical therapy.
How CBD Massages Work And What The Science Says
CBC massage treatment involves CBD oil which is combined with another carrier oil or cream before applied to the skin.
“Receiving a massage with CBD oil can potentially be very beneficial to patients who are suffering from symptoms such as localized pain, arthritis or inflammation, and skin disorders like eczema or psoriasis,” said Dr. Tanny Raz, the director of medical business development at Apollo Cannabis Clinics, a medical cannabis research organization and treatment center in Toronto.
The practice may also be beneficial for people dealing with chronic pain who struggle with sleep. Those with a pain-related condition often say that their discomfort tends to wake them up or prevent them from getting a deep sleep. It has been scientifically proven that CBD may increase the amount and quality of sleep, and research also suggests that it has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving benefits.
Note: Just like all medicines and treatments, CBD oil and massages are not suitable for everyone. Some report feeling irritability, fatigue, or nausea when using these products. Skin reactions are also possible with topical treatments.
