How to Use Epsom Salt to Reduce Inflammation and Detoxify Your Body

Bath salts have long been used by many cultures and for different purposes. They offer a wide range of benefits and are used for detoxifying the body, in gardening, and in household cleaning. These salts are cheap and can be bought in garden centers virtually anywhere. Using Epsom salt bath is a modern detoxification strategy that has outstanding health benefits.

Magnesium is a mineral that is important for improving muscle and nerve function. It plays a critical role in more than 320 enzymes.  It improves blood flow and oxygenation and reduces inflammation.  Using Epsom salts can help “refill” body`s magnesium and sulfates levels. Sulfates are important building blocks for nervous and skin tissues as well as healthy joints.  So, this potent combination is extremely effective at flushing out toxins from the system.

Regular use of Epsom salt baths has been proven to improve the symptoms of various health problems, such as gout, muscle soreness, bruises, sprains, toenail fungus and athlete`s foot.  It is also beneficial for those dealing with chronic pain or chronic disease.

There are a couple of different ways to use bath salts (in terms of the amount needed), depending on the area you want to treat.  A detox bath is the most popular and simplest way.  All you have to do is to fill up the bath and add certain amount of Epsom salts. Generally, for kids under 60 lbs, use ½ cup of salts to a standard size bath. For adults between 60-100 lbs add 1 cup of salts, for adults between 100-150 lbs add 1 1/2 cup of salts, and for adults between 150-200 lbs use 2 cups of salts.  You can also add ingredients like sea salt, essential oil of choice, such as grapefruit, lime, bergamot, or combination of the three, or spirulina.

Note:  Avoid using soap along with Epsom salt bath as it can interfere with the action of the minerals as well as the detoxification process. Rest for an hour or two after taking the bath.

Spirulina is extremely effective at removing metals from the body and helping the body to rebuild nerve tissues.  It can boost red blood cells and their ability to transport oxygen.  And, more oxygen means a more efficient body to detox. You can either add spirulina to your bath or take it orally.  You can mix the powder in smoothies, cereals, juices and pretty much anything.
