A study done by neuroscientists at Harvard University shows that the brain can be positively changed with meditative practice.  In the study, Anatomical magnetic resonance images (MRI) were taken of 16 subjects before and after they went through an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. At the end of the programs, the images of 4 regions of the brain showed increased gray matter concentration.  The subjects reported improved emotional balance and mental processing.
