10 Ways to Lose a Double Chin

10 Ways to Lose a Double Chin

Double chin is typically associated with weight gain, but factors like age, genetics, and lifestyle also play an important role.  Still, weight is the biggest determinant.

As we age, the skin loses much of its elasticity, meaning the ability to reshape itself after being stretched. Women are more prone to loss of elasticity compared to men. Nevertheless, here are 10 things you can do to lose your double chin!

  1. Bottom Jaw Jit

Look up at the ceiling by tilting the head back at a 45-degree angle. Then, rotate the head to the right. Slide the bottom jaw forward and hold for about ten seconds before releasing.  Repeat the steps above with the head turned toward the left.

  1. Ball Press

Put a 10-inch ball on the top of a desk or table, and hold the ball in place using the area between the neck and the chin.  Then, push it downward with the chin. Repeat 20-30 times.

  1. Neck Stretch

Just like in the first exercise, look up at the ceiling by tilting the head back at a 45-degree angle.  Lift the tongue upwards and hold it against the roof of the mouth. Hold for 10-15 seconds before releasing.

  1. Straight Jaw Jit

Again, look up at the ceiling by tilting the head back at a 45-degree angle. Slide the jaw forward and hold for 10-15 seconds.   Repeat and relax the jaw. Open the mouth wide in case you still feel tension, repeating if needed.

  1. Tongue Stretch

Open the eyes wide, keep the head straight, and stick the tongue out as far as you can.  Curl it upwards and hold for 10-15 seconds before releasing.

  1. Fatty Fish

Fatty fish like sardines, wild salmon, and mackerel are loaded with omega-3 fats which are strong inflammation fighters and great for keeping the metabolism strong.

  1. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are a plant alternative to fatty fish. As little as a tablespoon of chia seeds contains over 60 % or 2,457 milligrams, of the recommended daily value (DV) for omega-3s!

  1. Cranberries

Cranberries are an excellent source of various vitamins and minerals, but it is urselic acid which makes them a powerful fat-fighting food.  Ursolic acid has been shown to stimulate muscle growth, burn fat, and speed up metabolic rate.

  1. Sculpting and Contouring

Sculpting, contouring and skillful use of makeup in general can reduce the bulge of any double chin.  This isn’t a permanent solution, but a little bit of it never hurt anyone.

  1. Electrical Myostimulation

Electrical myostimulation, also known as EMS, involves the use of relatively light electrical pulses with the purpose of stimulating underlying muscles. Although this technique is designed for body areas like the arms, abdomen, and thighs, it could work on the face, too.
